We are studying the mechanism underlying the plasticity of excitatory synaptic connections in the brain using hippocampal organotypic slice cultures as a model. We investigate the structure-function relationship of synapses using a multidisciplinary appraoch based on electrophysiological recordings (whole cell patch clamp, dual cell recordings), time lapse imaging of synapses using two-photon confocal microscopy, ultrastuctural analyses using 3-D EM reconstruction and molecular tools.
